Reduce Your Carbon Footprint With Vintage Fashion
11 Jan
As you can read here, eBay's Green Team readily encourage purchasing of second-hand items as 'eco'. When I was a kid, there was nothing good, or cool, or anything about charity shops. Vintage and second-hand clothing was a license to be bullied at school. Ah, how the trendy have the last laugh.
According to an advert they placed in an issue of Marie Claire last year, choosing new-to-you leather shoes saves more energy than an average household uses in a day. Buying a pre-loved silk dress saves 95% of the CO2 needed to make a new one, and choosing a previously-owned leather clutch saves as much energy as not watching TV for 3 days straight.
Just another great reason to buy vintage items, and another great reason for me to continue this project.
Not to mention that my purchases from charity shops help them all to. So really, this project isn't restricted to fundraising for Macmillan at all.
P.S. OMG I need that dress.
