“We might not be able to pull it off, but if anyone is going to know how to wear a purple and pink 50s day dress it’s Kim Sklinar of Preloved Reloved.” Londonist, 9th May
I’m Kim, a Northerner adrift in West London.
In 2010 I cycled from London to Paris for The Institute of Cancer Research. This blog is now a place for me to continue sharing.
In 2011, I only wore second-hand clothes for a year – well, bought them. From charity shops, vintage markets and eBay. I spent less on clothes, made less impulse purchases, wore more unusual things, accessorising better, gave more money to charity. I did this throughout 2011 to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
In 2012 I cycled 500km in Kenya and Tanzania in the Kilimanjaro foothills, again for Macmillan. Click here to see my African diary (and photos of me looking very dirty and fried). This one’s a beaut.
In 2013 I was training for the London Marathon. But instead, I was diagnosed with Chronic Daily Migraine. Now I’m going to run the marathon in 2015, but it’s not going to be easy.
I originally began Preloved Reloved as a focus for my family, to fundraise and help keep us strong in the dark times. Now I continue to fundraise in Dad’s memory, to raise awareness of cancer and other conditions, to promote the plight of selfless fundraisers and brave individuals who overcome the near-impossible.
I’m also a mouthy cow keen to educate people that migraine – no matter how frequent/infrequent/severe/episodic is SO much more than just a headache. Pain is relative but nobody should experience it alone.
I run also Never Enough Notes, a wonderful music e-zine.
